SALARIES INCREASED.

HARBOUR BOARD STAFF. SUPERANNUATION FUND. Th© Lyttelton Harbour • Board, at its meeting yesterday, decided to increase substantially tbe salaries of its permanent staff. Tbe matter was brought before the board by the Harbour improvement Committee, which recommended in tbe course of its monthly report:—(a) That 1 tbe salaries’ of tbe board’s staff generally should be increased by 15 ner oentum. calculated on the-first £4OO of each officer’s salary; (b) that those officers who did not particinnte in’the 10 per cent increase in 1917, receiving only a 5 per cent increase, should now have their salaries adjusted by a.n increase of 5 ner cent, additional to the lo ner cent increase above mentioned ; (eYthat tbe salary of tbe assistant-secre-tary should be £SOO ner year; (d) that tbe salary of tbe assistantengineer should bo £SOO per rear; (e) that the salary of tbe secretnrv and engineer should be £1250 P©r year. The committee further recommended that the board should establish a suneranmiation fund und«v the National Provident Fund Act of 1914, and that membership of tbe fund should be comnußory for all new employees of tbe board. Tbe chairman, in moving the ndorstion of f’c report, said that tbe whole matter bad been gone int-o tborougblv and the committee consndcrod the proposed increases to be very fair in view ef the salaries paid bv other board®.
