LAWN TENNIS.
WAIATJ CLTTB. Walan Lawn Tennis Club opened it* season on Monday.- The weather was perfect art tlM > cornmenceraent of the day, but about five o'clock a heavy shower terminated play. There was a large attendance of member 3 and visitors, including Mrs D. D. MJacfarlane (patroness) and several members from the Cu verdon Club. Mr F. Northcote declared tho oowis open, and an impromptu match club v. visitors was commenced, but, owing to the rain, was no' concluded. Afternoon tea was nerved by the lady members of the club. Tho grounds had been put in good order by a party of workers, under the direction of Mr J. HiggirmIn the evening a dance was held in the Coronation Hall, Miss G. Brown and Mt J. M'Bryde supplying the musio, and several members of the club providing extras. The scores for the day's play were as follows, VVaiau players being mentioned first in each oase.— Mrs Penwell anfl Miss Manion lost to Misses Travers and Hare, 8-6; Mrs M'Bryde and Miss M. Douglas beat Misses Travers sind Clmffey, 6-4; Rodgers and .Aldridge beat Macfarlane and Lowry, 9-1; Burrows and lost to Soott and M'Kenzie, 5-9 J M'Brvde and H. Lee lost to J. Maofarlane and Dunstan, 4-6.
