DISCHARGED SOLDIERS.
[Per Press Association.] AVELLINGTOX, September 29. The latest progress statement issued by the Discharged Soldiers’ Information Department shows that on September 27 the number of men on the register was 5515. Of these 4494 eases tiave been disposed of, 711 were still under action, and 310 were men convalescing, not ready for employment and not yet discharged by the military authorities. , Of tho 4494,cases disposed of, 1820 men have work to return to. hare reenlisted or have returned to military duty, etc., 1049 have been placed in employment, 1032 have signed “assistance not required,”, 142 have left New Zealand or their addresses cannot -be ascertained, 315 have not responded to repeated communications or have accepted work the. Department found for them but failed to start work, and 135 have drawn sections of land. . Of 711 cases still under action, 247 are at present on the “ employment wanted register.”
