MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The opening mooting of the East Christchurch Band of Hope was held in tho East Belt Sunday School Hall on Monday evening. Tho Rev AY. A. Sinclair presided. The Rev J. Paterson delivered an address on the ovil effects of alcohol on the human bodv. Tho programme was provided by tho Band of Hopo Union. wore contributed by Misses N. and L. Cocitcr a.ud Misses Crcok aud Connell; recitations by Beby Fardel!, AVinnie Ramsay, Jack P'rudeu, Ruby Carson, Tui Eldridgo and M. and I. Pi-uden, and Mr E. H. Down; songs by Rita Bray, Beby Fardcll, AVinnio Ramsay and Miss Sprosten. Seven pledges wore taken. At the close a strong comiuitteo was formed to carry on the work, the Rev AV. A. Sinclair being appointed patron, Mr W. R. olazey president,, and Miss D. Hale secretary. It was decided to affiliate with tho Band of Hop© Union and delegates wero appointed.
