Merrie Lad, runner-up to Briieburn in the Napier Park SteepltYhaso last week, is expected to improve on that effort before long, as he is still backward in condition. The race Bon Rove had oyer hurdles at Napier Park on Friday is expected to do him a lot of good, and it is confidently predicted that he will turn out above the ordinary as a hurdler. Multieipal has been spoken of for some time as a horse likely to win a good race over hurdles. He was not ready to race at Napier Park last week, having beon off the scene for a spell, owing to an accident. Sir Solo, who was among tho hurdlers raying at Napier Park last week, will require a lot of education before he can bo classed as a_ capable horse at the jumping game. E. Berry, who for a good many years was associated with M. Edwards, took a position, a few months ago as private trainer to Airs R. O. Duncan. Ho has recently sot up for himself as a public trainer, and has taken the stables in Cobham Street, Spreydon, that wero at one time occupied by RM’Millan. Berry has alroady got four horses in work, and should not be long before ho gets a good team together. Amongst tho recent enlistments is T. G. Fox. Tho popular “ Tom ” has been associated with tho trotting sport for a good many years, and if he is successful in passing the doctor he will be greatly missed at local trotting meetings.

Ono of the best of Petereta’s stock is a rising three-year-old gelding from the dam of Dillon Bell, named Petor 8011. Ho is a particularly well-grown youngster, and a trotter of great promise. On account of the colt growing so fast he has not been given much work, but his owner has now decided to send him along in earnest, in view of tho Forbury Park Club’s Trotting Derby. The pacer Coal King, who has come rapidly up the front by reason of his capital performance at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s mooting, was gelded during tho week.
