LAWN TENNIS.
CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The Cantcrburv Lawn Tennis Association met in Mr-E. J. Taylors rooms last nigMi present—Messrs G. L. Berry (chairman), ABoirows, S. \V. Lewis, J. Munmngs, i. Cooper L. J. Tavlor, R. Bahantyne, B. Browning and E. J. Tayler (secretary.^ The Auckland Association forwarded a notice of motion regarding amendments to the rules to be submitted to the quarterly meeting of the New Zealand Association to be held in AYellir.glon on February 29. It was decided to instruct the delegates- to support tho motion. Mr Lewis moved that the Easter tournaments should be held as usual this year. ( The motion lapsed for want of a seconder. Mr Tavlor moved that an Easter tournament should be held provided it was tor patriotic purposes. Mr Borrows opposed the motion, and said tcuniaments were cot the thing at the present time. The chairman supported Mr Borrows, and said that it was difficult to get players to enter. There would not be any interest taker in tho tournament, and from what he haa heard,tho majority of the players were not in favour of a. tournament being held. Mr Browning said he thought the tournament should be held for the sake of the ladv players, . The secretary said that -if players were i? favour of a tournament, one should be held. Last year keen interest %rss taken in the tournament. He moved as an amendment that a tournament should be held on the. United Club's courts, and that all proceeds should be devoted to the Patriotic Fund. ->■- Mr Taylor withdrew his motion and the amendment was carried. It was decided to leave the dat» of the tournament in the hands of the Match Couir mit'.ce. . _
