RED CROSS SOCIETY.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive committee of the Cliristehurch branch of the- Red Cross Society met at the rooms of the St John Ambulance Association Inst evening; present—Mr J. A. Flcsher (chairman), Dean Carrington, Dr A. F. J/Mickle and Messrs M. J. Gresson, A. Boyle. W. T. Robinson, B. Tripp and H. Reeves. The chairman explained that the meeting was called principally for the purpose of considering matters to be placed before the Dominion Rod Cross Council, convened by his Excellency the Governor, to be held the following day at " Elm wood." Lord Phinket wrote acknowledging the receipt in London of lifty-two ca*es from Canterbury and West Coast Centre for New Zealauders at the military hospital at Walton-on-Thamcs, and thanking the donors on behalf of the recipients. The letter was received. The Geraldine Home and' Empire League Wrote- stating that it had received an appeal for aid from the French Red Cross organisation. It desired to know whether money or goods received for general lied Cross purposes could be diverted to the French organisation. It was decided to reply that the executive could see no objection to the proposal. The chairman said that one of the proposals which the Ladies' Committeo desired should be brought before the Dominion Council was the makiug of a request to the Railway Department to carry goods forwarded from depots to branches and vice versa free of freight. The request had already been made and had been refused, but it might receive more favourable consideration if it came from the Dominion Council. In* staiics of faulty addressing had l occurred, which showed' that it was desirable that all consignments should go through a Red Cross _ depot, and the Ladies' Committee desired that a suggestion to that effect should go before the council. Probably if the shipping companies were asked to accept no consignments not bearing the Red Cross brand, much confusion would' be obviated. It wns decided to place the matters before the council as requested.
