MEETING AT LEESTON. \ well-attended meeting of the, Leestor, Patriotic Committee, held on Inday evening, was presided over by l>r Volckman. The meeting was called to consular and devise ways and means to ruse hinds for the Canterbury 1 amo'tic Fund, through the agency or the Oueen contest, in which the Ellcsmcre district is represented by Miss Birdling, tho Peninsula Queen. It was decided to hold an art union for prizes valued at £lO5, and the following collectors were appointed from the members of the committee: —Messrs \V H. .lamieson, W. Holloy, S. Johnson, A. T Robertson, ft. G. Power. Dr Volckman and Mrs T. Holley. Mr J. Halliday announced that Mess.-s \. L. Joseph would donate ton sheep to the value of not less than £lO. The offer was accepted with thanks.

For the art union seven prizes were agreed upon, the first heing an upright grand piano. It was decided that the drawing should take place, seven days after the closing of the contest. The secretary was instructed to apply to the .Minister of Internal Affairs for permission to hold .the art union.' A donation of £lO from the chairman was accented with thank-.
