PATRIOTIC MOTOR CARNIVAL

TO-DAY’S SPEED CONTESTS. * To-day the biggest motor racing meeting ever held in New Zealand will take place at Plumpton Park. The programme will include motor-cnr, motor-cycle and cycling events, and for the first time In the motoring history of the Dominion a New Zealand Car Championship will be contested. Thw first race will start at noon. The entries for the• motor-cycling events are very lar"e. twenty-seven riders having entered Tor the light-weight handicap, eHit for the heavy-weight handicap, ten for the ’’Old Crocks Race.” and j,ix ladies for the Ladies’ Bracelet. For the New Zealand Light-weight Championship there are nine entrants: for the New Zealand Middle-weight Championship there are sixteen entrants, and for the New Zealand Heavy-weight Championship thoi« are e'ght entrants. A number of novelty events are included in tbe’programme. Afternoon tea will be served in the pavilion, and soldiers in uniform v ill be admitted fra? to the grounds and to tea. The whole proceeds of the carnival will go to patriotic purposes, and judging from the very high speeds attained by motorists in preliminary trials, a very exciting and interesting day’s sport should be witnessed. A special tram service will convey patrons to the gates of the park at a charge of sixpiree.
