INDUSTRIES GROUP.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the committee cf the Industries Group was' held in the Industrial Rooms last evening. Mr J. BLaurenson presiding over a good attendance of delegates. Arrangements were reported to be complete for a .monster picnic to i.«# hold at. the racecourse in March. It was decided to hold an industrial exhibition towards the end of April.
CARRIERS' SECTION. A meeting of the Carriers section in connection with the candidature of the Industries Queen, was held in the Employers' Association Rooms. Casiipl Street, on Wednesday evening. Mr M’Forran presided, and announced that Mrs Coffey had offered to give two oil paintings to he sold for the benefit of the object in hand. A vote of thanks was accorded the donor. It was decided to hold a procession of 'decorate:! vehicles through the streets of the city on Saturday evening. March 4, and to give two honorary awards for the best decorated turnouts. also to hold a cake and scone competition, an entrance fee ot tnreepeuce, each class to be charged, the entrance money to be divided into first and second prizes in each case. All goods are to be sold by auction in the Square on the evening of that- date. The cakes and scones will be judged by two experts in the Manchester Street Chambers, opposite the City Council Yards, on Saturday morning, March 4.
GAS COMPANY'S EMPLOYEES’ SECTION.
An enthusiastic meeting or over 100 of the employees of the Christchurch Gas Company and their lady friends was held at the showrooms. "Worcester Street, on Thursday night, Mi K. English presiding. It was unanimously decider! that the Gas Company's section should hold a bic art union,, for which twenty-five prizes totalling over £SO in value had been presented by the directors, general manager, and departmental managers. Amongst the prizes were two ladies' costumes to order, a suit of clothes to order, a large doll in perambulator a ton of coal, a ton ol coke, a cas cooker, a gas iron, and several otner orders for goods. Tickets to be sixpence each. . , , A ladies’ committee was appointed, with Miss Turner as convener and Miss Napper secretary, also a musical committee with.Mr G. Dal try as convener, to arrange open-air concerts, .etc. The treasurer reported that the works section headed the list of collections for the fortnight up to February 11.
