Excursionists who intend to take advantage of the special train leaving for Timaiu at 7.5 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, will have tho opportunity to attend the second day ot the Now Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union's championships, whore the hest athletic talent in running, cycling, jumping and wrestling and Highland dancing will be competing. In addition to the special championship events, big cash handicaps wiu l>e run off. Tho South Canterbury Caledonian Society is giving £3(50 in prize money for the two days, January 1 and 2, this sum being larger than that given by any other sports meeting hi tho Dominion.
