TO-MORROW’S GAMES
A BIG TOURNAMENT.
Sydenham Park will be tho scene of a big hockey tournament to-morrow, when Canterbury will play matches against South Canterbury and Ashburton simultaneously, commencing at 10 a.in. Tho visiting teams are as follow :
South Canterbury—Goal, D. Turner; full-backs, C. Rix and V. Gabites; halves, L. Waters, J. E. Anderson and J. H. H. Wallace; forwards, N. B. Edwards (left), J. Davis, W. Waugh and L. Hudson; bully, F. Kennard. Emergency, P. Clark. Ashburton—Goal,. C. Moore; fullbacks, H. Sarnoy and P. Wen - ; halves, E. Scales, H. Amos and W. Bamford; forwards, G. Smith, J. Brown, W. Clarko and D. Moore; bully, J. Muldoon. Emergencies, F. Broom, S. Culverhouso, R. Templeton and W. Hamilton.
Messrs H. Hatch and F. Mogridge have been appointed referees for Canterbury v. South Canterbury, and Messrs T. W. Jacobs and F. G. Turnpenny for Canterbury r. Ashburton. Between the representative matches, several five-a-sido tournaments will be played. At 9.30 a.m. a start will be made with the third, fourth and fifth grades. The first and second grades will be commenced at 3.30 p.m. The Ashburton players will have to return on the same day, and as the train leaves Christchurch early, their matches will be pushed on as far as possible. Auckland have suggested August 8 for the Shield match at Auckland, and this date will probably be accepted by Canterbury.
