WOMAN SUFFRAGE.
THE MOVEMENT IN THE UNITED
STATES. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright, (Received March 4, 10.55 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 3.
The Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives heard suffrage and anti-suffragist deputations regarding the demand for a constitutional amendment of United States laws providing for feminine suffrage. - Dr Mary Walker, trousered and silk hatted, a noted feminist who has been specially permitted to male garb, made a vigorous plea for women’s rights, threatening that women voters throughout the suffrage States would destroy the Democratic party unless their demands were granted. The Senate later debated the question.
Senator Clapp held that all the evil influences throughout the United States sought to prevent women getting votes as they instantly would right many glaring social wrongs.
