A DESERVING CASE.
TO THE JSDITOII. Sir, —In your issue of Friday last, the Mayor drew attention to a very pitiable case of distress in the city, and appealed for assistance. Now, the citizens of Christchurch are always ready to assist any deserving case that comes before them, and they will probably do so in this case. I was, however, much surprised at the concluding words of your local this morning, which, while thanking various donors, concluded as follows: "That no further assistance was required." Now, there has been a wrong impression created in the city, which has to-day stultified to a great extent the efforts of those who are trying to 6ell the tickets for the benefit on Thursday, so kindly given by the management of the Queen's Pictures. Tho public is under the impression that a sum of money has been raised. That is not so. If they will come now and buy their tickets, they will have tho satisfaction of knowing that they have given nvon their mite to a deserving object.— I am, etc., SYMPATHISER.
