LINWOOD CITIZENS' ASSOCIATION.

At the fourth annual meeting of the Linwood Citizens' Association, held in the Hall. Rolleston Street, Lmwood, the president (Mr W. H. Denton) was in the chair, and there, was. a fair attendance of members and friends. The report mentioned the good work done by* the Association' during the last year, and stated that already the effect of the third representative on the City Council, which the district now enjoyed, was felt. It was proposed to hold a series of public meetings, at which councillors would give addresses on municipal matters, the Lake Coleridge electric'seheme, and po on. The balance-sheet showed a fairly satisfactory state of finances. The' report' and' balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr G.-W, Russell, M.P.; president, Mr W. H. Denton; vice-presi-dents, Messrs W. W. Fighley, A. M. Loasby and F. C. Herbert; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Macintosh: committee, Messrs E. Clarke, P. D. Mansell, F. M. Ormandv, E. Brown, A. Birk, S. Phillips, A. Bartlett, W. J. Roberts, F. C. Ball, H. J. Jamieson, A. Grange; A. Bird ;'■ '-auditor, Mr F. M. Orman'dy; representatives to United Burgesses' Association, the president and secretary.

The following motion, was carried: — " That the meeting enters its emphatic

protest against the action of the. Board of Governors of Christ's College in endeavouring and recommending to parents the preference and use of English cloth instead of' colonial-manufactured cloth, and views with alarm the action of any public body atempting to stifle local industries." The chairman said that if Linwood was to have its fair share of band concerts this season, residents would have to assist the Association in swelling the funds already in hand for that purpose.
