THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION

VISIT TO SOUTH CANTERBURY. The Hon G. Fowlds visited Waimate yesterday and was welcomed by the Mayor aDd members of the Borough Council. In reply to their representations the Minister said that the Government could not take up the importation of domestic servants as one of its functions. However, much might be done by private efforts towards getting out, say, Scandinavian girls. The Minister visited the Hospital and the Eublic school.. Before leaving by train e was interviewed in reference to the proposed Hospitals Bill. He said that probably the system whereby a certain portion of tho members of Hospital Boards wore elected by subscribers would find no place in the Bill.
