PERSONAL.
Among tho arrivals in Christchurch yesterday were Messrs T. Finlayson (Auckland) and D. A. Ewen (Dunedin) and Mr and Mrs Tapson (Napier). Messrs T. A. Phillips (The Point), W. H. Montgomery (Little River), A. S. Clarkson (Rangiora), R. Blunden (Bennetts), C. A. Richardson, A. Johnson and F. M. Short (Dunedin) are in Christchurch.
Mr Geoffrey Nye, of West's Pictures, arrived yesterday to make arrangements for tho presentation of some art studies just received from Mr T. J. West.
Mr H. P. Murray-Ayneley, chairman of tho New Zealand directors of the Now Zetland Shipping Company, is taking a trip round tho coast on the company's steamer Ruapehu. The Rev John Nixon left for Wellington last night to .take charge, for a time, of the Presbyterian Church at Brooklyn. The Rev J. R. Wilford, vicar of Prebbleton, and Mrs Wilford, left on Thursday by the Moeraki for Sydney, en route to England, for a holiday of about nine months. Tho Rev J. It. Hewland, of Naseby, will, in the meantime, take charge of Prebbleton.' Mr James Craigio was unanimously re-elected chairman of the Timaru Harbour Board at a meeting of the Board yesterday.
Captain T. N. Clarkson, harbourmaster at Timaru, who has been incapacitated from his duties for several weeks by illness, has been granted six months' leave of absence on full v pay. Captain Tait will act as harbourmaster during his absence.
