ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, SApril 23. Mrs Ahlgren, a resident of Henderson, was found lying near the railway line early this morning with a broken arm, injuries to her head and body. Presumably she had been struck by a train and thrown clear of the rails, but she is not able yet to give an account of the accident. Her condition is not regarded as serious. DANNEVIRKE, April 23. Louis Brown, a single man, aged thirty-two, was drowned in a well at Ormondvillo, which he had just completed. Deceased went down to clear some debris floating on the surface and was apparently overcome by foul air and fell into the water. The well was 97ft deep. WELLINGTON, April 23. The man drowned at the railway wharf laet night has been identified as John Hislop, wharf labourer. It is believed that he was formerly a resident of Dunedin.

At the inquest on John Hislop, wharf labourer, who fell into the harbour laet night and died later in the hospital, medical evidence showed that deceased suffered from the effects of the immersion and alcoholism. Death was due to water in the lungs interfering with breathing. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.

INVERCARGILL, April 23. Mr Ralph Emmerson, local manager for D. Benjamin and Co., Dunedin, expired suddenly in the waiting-room of Dr Ewart's residence, where he had gone for consultation regarding heart trouble. He attended to business as usual this morning. Deceased was about forty years of ago and leaves a widow and two children.

An inquest was held at Aehburtonon Friday afternoon, before Mr H. Davis, J.P.. acting-coroner, and a jury of six, touching the death of John Scanlon, found dead at Dromore on Thursday. A verdict was returned in accordance with the testimony of Dr Handcock, who had made a post mortem examination, that death was due to syncope.
