CANTERBURY LAW SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the Canterbury District Law Society was held aft the Supremo Court Library on Thursday, when forty-two members were, present. The Mr H. J. Beswick, was in the chair. The annual report and balance-sheeti were adopted. Mr J. A. Flesher, who had held the 1 position of honorary secretary during! the past twelve years, having stated his desire to be relieved of taie position, on the motion of the president, seconded by Mr W. Izard, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mi. Flesher for his services: Mr H. Slater, who had been a member of the Society since 1870 and held the office of secretary for a. period of eighteen years, and had been a member of the Council for upwards o{ thirty years, announced that he would not seek re-election. On the motion of Mr G. Harper, seconded by Mr H.> D. Andrews, a resolution, was carried; unanimously in appreciation of the ser-j vices rendered by Mr Slater to the Society. ! The election of officers, resulted aft follows:—President, Mr H. J. Bes-' wick; vice-president, Mr F. I. Cowlishaw: honorary treasurer, Mr G. H. N.( Helmore; honorarv secretary, Mr G.f T. Weston; council, Messrs H. D. An* drews, Ji A. Ca6sidy, M. Donnelly, J.' J, A. Flesher%nd G. Harper; tivea to the New Zealand Law Society,! Messrs G. Harper and T. W. Stringer, j The following new members weW elected:—Messrs A.. W. Bishop, A. Si Taylor and H. C. D. VanAech. \
