CANTERBURY LAW SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Canterbury District Law Society was held aft the Supremo Court Library on Thursday, when forty-two members were, present. The Mr H. J. Beswick, was in the chair. The annual report and balance-sheeti were adopted. Mr J. A. Flesher, who had held the 1 position of honorary secretary during! the past twelve years, having stated his desire to be relieved of taie position, on the motion of the president, seconded by Mr W. Izard, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mi. Flesher for his services: Mr H. Slater, who had been a member of the Society since 1870 and held the office of secretary for a. period of eighteen years, and had been a member of the Council for upwards o{ thirty years, announced that he would not seek re-election. On the motion of Mr G. Harper, seconded by Mr H.> D. Andrews, a resolution, was carried; unanimously in appreciation of the ser-j vices rendered by Mr Slater to the Society. !
