TRAMWAY EXTENSION.

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—l cannot agree with your correspondent, “Westward Ho,” that the Hackthorne Road is the proper route for the extension of tile Cashmere Hills’ tramway. There is no probability of much building on either side of the road from the present terminus to the bottom of the Hackthorne Road, whereas the Dyer’s Pass Road,- Oracroft Terrace, Macmillan Avenue, Isitt’s Road and others still to be formed will, without doubt, he very extensively built on within the near future. Again. I would point out that the upper half of the Hackthorne Road would be far better served bv a tram-line direct to town v:»' Dyer’s Pass Road than. all the way round by the river. The Tramway Board have, I believe, had a. survey made of the Dyer’s Pass Road, and T was assured by a professional man who was acquainted with the result obtained that tho srrade is by no means impossible. Tile present service could nor. be extended, as “Westward Ho states, by the cars now. running, as there is only just time duriug the fifteen minutes’ service to reverse the trollev pole at the terminus and start back to town.—l am. etc.. W. GUISE BRITTAN.
