THE VOLUNTEERS.
After a parade of the Lyttelton Naval Cadets on Tuesday evening a meeting was held for the . purpose of electing office-bearers. Tho following were elected :—General Committee, Cadets T. Brealy, F. Mundy, J. Jones, S. M’Gee, H. Jookin, R. Saunders and H. Norton; Finance Committee, the officers; Firing Committee, PettyOfficers Atkinson and Davis, and Cadc-ts F. Mundy, B. M’Gee and S. Blogg; secretary, Petty-Officer S. Atkinson. It was resolved that the General Committee should be the Selection Committee. Captain Jones offered a, medal for the Cadet scouring the largest number of members in three months. Three medals wore offered by the Artillery Division for shooting, tho first competition to be held on Saturday, May I. Gunner Ching promised to give liis services as coach. ■ One new member was sworn in. Lieutenant-Colonel Hawkins, V.D., officer commanding the Canterbury Volunteer district, has issued a district order expressing his highest appreciation of the conduct of the troops during the Easter operations, the discipline being excellent, and the work performed, often under difficulties, most satisfactory.
