BAND OF HOPE CONTESTS.

The musioal and elocutionary contests of the Canterbury Band of Hope Union were continued in the Choral Hall last nig-ht, when there was -a crowded audience. The vocal solos in Class V D were rendered very effectively and the vocal duets, quartets, and choir pieces were given with spirit. Tableaux also evoked considerable applause from the audience. The following are the prize-winners:—Violin solos. Miss I. M. Reese ; violin and piano duet, Miss and MiReese ; Band' of Hope addresses, Miss G. Musgrove; impromptu speaking, Mr H. Chapman 1, Mr AV. Earwaker 2; vocal solos' (Class B), Miss Emily Nightingale 1, Miss Muriel M'Alrice 2 t "Mr M'Donald Vincent 3. The contests will be continued this evening-
