THE VOLUNTEERS.
The annual church parade of-tie North Canterbury Battalion of Volunteer Corps was held at the Cathedral on Sunday. Colonel Porter, C. 8., was in command, and other members -of the district staff were present as follow;—Major Snow, Captain M’Gcc, Captain Dougall, Lieutenant Brown and Sergeant-Major Farthing. The battalion staff was as follows Lieutenant-, Colonel Day, Major Cresswell, Captain Merton, Lieutenant-Quartermaster Batchelor, Sergeant-Major Dyer, Quartermaster-. Sergeant Shaun and Sergeant-Bugler Molloy. Captain Hobday and Captain Linn, (unattached) were also present. Tho parade strength of the corps that ..took part was 649. The Garrison Band was also in aG tendance. Bishop Julius preached from the text, “Be of good courage, and let us play the man for our people and for tie cities of our God.” When the Volunteers returned to the drill grounds, after the service, Colonel Porter addressed them, and said that hs'felt gratified at'their smart appearance. That was the first occasion on.'which, he .had seen, them all together, and he was very pleased at the manner in which they had turned out.
