Turnbull, president, in thotehair. ■ A letter was received from the Premier stating that there were no, funds at the disposal of the Government for the purposes of defraying the expenses of delegates to the Congress of Chambers of Commerce, of the Empire, to bo held, in Montreal. A prospectus jjof tho Imperial Food Supplies' Company was re- ; ceived. Tho Secretary of .the General Post Office, Wellington, wrote, in reply to the letter from the Chamber asking j that a weekly mail service should be arrnng'ed via Suez, stating that the Union Steamship; Company was unable to guarantee, that Friday .would bo the regular da ; y of departure from Wellington. It was decided to ask the Government . to subsidise the steamer leaving Wellington on the Friday week following - tho departure of the San Francisco mail. Correspondence was read with reference to the arrangements for the conferenoe of the Industrial and Agricultural and Pastoral Associations, tho Chamber of Commerce and the Canterbury members of. Parliament, to be held on Saturday in tho Chamber Hall, at 2 p.m. The Auckland Chamber sent a telegram advising that the Conference, of Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand had' been postponed until May 15. Thl* Melbourne and Brisbane Chambers of Commerce wrote asking for support in obtaining a larger share of business for the Pacific cable.
