GREATER CHRISTCHURCH.
GOVERNOR'S CONSENT OBTAINED. Mr H. G. Ell, M.H.R., has received a telegram from the Hon J. M'Gowan, acting-Colonial Secretary, stating that the Greater Christchurch proclamation has received the Governor's consent, and will be gazetted today. This will mean that the representation on the Greater Christchurch Council will bo as proposed by the City Council. The Linwood and St Albans Borough Councils had declined to approve of this basis, under -which, as wards, they will each elect two members, and' it was feared that a deadlock would occur. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 1. A " Gazette " ratifying the constitution of Greater Christchurch and Wellington appeared this afternoon. According to the estimated population, on Jan. 1 of this year, "Wellington- will now .have 49,424 residents, and Christchurch 46,630, but this does not, of course, include suburbs still unamalgamated.
