At the quarterly meeting of the Chambef of Commerce, after the President had reviewed the leading' events of the period, a resolution was passed regarding general average to the effect that attention having been drawn to the unsatisfactory conditions attenclinp; the preparation of general average statements the Chamber w.as 'of opinion as regarded statements prepared in England that the delay in publication was out of proportion to the labour, and research involved, ■while the fees charged were excessive, and the Chamber strongly recommended importers to "jps their influence to have all statements connected with inward vessels prepared in the. colony. A resolution of the "Napier Chamber was endorsed. This was to the effect that the Minister of Marine should! be requested to have the shipping laws so amended that all vessels must have certiricatcs- before leaving the main ports "that boats are properly provisioned, and all appliances for life saving are in order, and that the Minister be asked-to- get the cooperation of the Federal Government in this direction.
