BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOI. . The Kaiapoi Borough Council met 0% Tuesday evening; present—the Mayor, and Councillors Pcarce, Parnham, Eagle, Keet-* ley, Bugg and-Blackwell. The surveyor's report stated that during the last fortnight all the rates had been collected except £ls 14s, and there were only four unregistered •dogs in the borough. The contractor for' tho baths advised that 1 old wheel tyres should be used to put in the side walls ta strengthen them. The Clerk estimated this could be done tit a cost of about £5. The matter was left to the "Works Committee to attend to. The Finance Committee reported receipts of £270 lis 10d, and a credit balance at the Barak of £142 13s lid. Accounts amounting to £22 3s were passed for payment, and also £5 as a grant to the Domain Board. The Mayor expressed pleasure at the sound position of the Council's finances, at better one than had .been known for many years. Several .councillors spoke in a similar strain. A letter was read from Mr' Hazeltene,": tf lessee of the Council's reserve at Ashburton. stating that the Upper Ashburton Road Board" had commenced taking shingle from a part of the reserve. As no'record 1 of any agreement between the Council and' th* It had Board could be found* on the mmutes ( it was decided that the Clerk should writ* the Board and ask whit authority it had for its action. -On"the motion of Council" lors Parnhsfra and Eagle, a vote, of thankf was accorded to Mr Feldwiek for his' services on the- Charitable Aid Board fol the'past twelve months. Councillor Ke'etv ley was elected as a.', member of the Bath.Committee'. The Council then sat as tt Domain Board; and after passing -account amounting to £2 7s-63, rose.
