THE PETERBOROUGH STREET CASE.

THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE HOS- < PITAL AUTHORITIES. In accordance with a motion passed at a meeting of the Oity . Council on Monday evening, the Sanitary* Committee and the Mayor (Mr W. Reece) waited on the Hospital authorities with a view to ascertaining if they would take charge of the unfortunate woman in Peterborough Street, who, it has been stated', is suffering from lupus. Dr Crooke, the House Surgeon, met the deputation and discussed the matter with it. He stated that there was no objection to receiving the case from a medical point of view, but that if the woman was sent to the general hospital it would have a bad effect on nervous patients. The Hospital authorities had already made preparations for treating the case. The difficulty was in regard to providing room. It was arranged that the woman should be left in the house in Peterborough Street at present, the Hospital authorities undertaking to provide adequate attention and attendance. No further steps will be taken until the meeting of- the House • Committee of the Hospital Board ' some time to-diay, probably in the evening, when the question will he brought up by. Councillor Loughnan, who is a member of both the Sanitary Committee and Hospital House Committee.
