In response to a deputation the City Council decided to submit a vote of £2OOO for a crematorium to the ratepayers., It was stated that with the assistance of the blast from the destructor furnace and the use of the drainage machinery engines; the cost, apart from the mortuary chapel, would only be a few hundreds. The late train from Palmerston last night was bombarded with stones near Levin. Windows were smashed and two ladies were struck and much hurt. The Victoria’s mails from Melbourne, March 16, reached London on April 16. Only seven cases are set down, so far, for the Appeal Court on Monday. Messrs Bing, Harris and Co. estimate the damage to their premises and stock by the overflow of sewage at £IOOO, and have served notice on the City Council of their intention to claim. The report of the local Dairy Regulations Committee was favourable as to the quality of the milk supplied, and states that only one case of tuberculosis had been reported after an investigation extending over four months.
