J It is stated that the Kapai Vermont, mine has been seized in the interests of the original Company by the liquidator in consequence of alleged breaches of the mortgage deed. The ■ necessary capital for operations at the Preices Point Proprietary has been raised in London, and work will be resumed at an early date. . The representatives of English mining companies at present in Auckland have written to the Hon A. J. Cadman, Minister of Mines, complaining of the taxation imposed by the Government on mining companies, and they will place before . the Minister their views on the necessity of the Government removing the disabilities under which operations are at present conducted bv their respective companies. NELSON, April 19. News has just been received from Collingwood that the Australian Gold Trust Company’s trial crushing of twenty tons of stone resulted in sixty-five ounces of smelted gold. The Australian Trust holds a portion of the Taitapu Estate. The Mine Manager of the Tarawera Gold-mining Company, Preservation Inlet, reports that the shaft (9ft by 3ft) is now sunk to a depth of 20ft. The present sinking is through diorite. Asa considerable amount of surface work had to bo done before .the shaft was started, the progress is:considered ‘ satisfactory. Mr , Milne’s launch :h’as been fully employed in conveying material to the claim.' ; ;The -mine manager cf the Dee Creek Sluicing Company reports that the work in the big tunnel Is progressing satisfactorily, and anticipates that the remaining 340 ft will bo driven in a month from date. The extension to No. 3 creek will be finished .before the tunnel is completed. The tables are in course of construction and- the necessary piping: has been ordered. The Surveyor of the Colin Sluicing Company (no liability) reports completion of the first mile of survey and expects to finish in a month from date. Mr George Morris, of Kumara, who has a good sluicing record, has been appointed mine manager. / The Mine Manager of the Waiwhero Sluicing Company, under date of April 14, reports that the sawmill is now running well. He has commenced the construction of a dam at .Devery’s Creek, and will be able to get the water from that - creek and Lawson’s on to the claim as soon as five chains of Burning have been completed, which is estimated to take a month. The weather had been very bad for a. week prior to report. Mr William Campbell, of Barry town, has been appointed mine manager of the Pactolus Sluicing Company (no liability), and is now engaged on a survey of the race.
