SOUTH ISLAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the South Island Trotting Association was held at the City Hotel at seven o’clock yesterday evening; present— Messrs W. Eo’llitt (in the chair); P. Selig, Greymouth; A. L. Myers, Tahuua Park; T. Marr, New Brighton; D. iVPLean, Ashburton ; F. Fuchs, Southland Trotting Club; J. M’Namara, Timaru, and L. Matson, Canterbury. An apology for unavoidable absence was received from Mr J. Chadwick. The following programmes were passed: Tahuna Park Trotting Club, Feb. 26 and March 3; New Brighton Trotting Club, April 1; Nelson Jockey Club, April 7 and 8; Akaroa County Racing Club, March 9; and Eangitata Sports Committee, for which no date was mentioned. A letter from Mr F. Bull, Eangitata, was read, stating that the report that he had “rung-in” the trotter Moody was incorrect. The letter was received. A letter from Mr James, hon. secretary, Tahuna Park Trotting Club, asked for three permits for next year on the ground that the Tahuna Park was the only Trotting Club in Otago. The letter was received, and general sympathy with the request was expressed. The evidence relating to the riding'ofJ. Humphreys in Reefton was next considered, and it was decided to withdraw that rider’s permit for some time. The Colonial Secretary wrote asking for information with regard to the inquiry respecting alleged irregularities in the disqualification of certain horses by the stewards of the Canterbury Trotting Club at the recent meetings held on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Tt was stated that a full report of the matter had been forwarded by the Chairman to the Colonial Secretary, also a letter stating that though the officials of the Canterbury Trotting Club had erred in a matter of judgment, the Association was convinced that the officials were entirely free from the charge of having disqualified the horses for the sake of any gain. This terminated the monthly meeting. An adjourned special meeting was then hold to consider an appeal from the decision of the Canterbury Trotting Club disqualifying Honest Wilkes. • A long discussion took place on the subject.. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Selig, seconded by Mr Marr—“ That the appeal be dismissed.” The motion was carried by seven votes to three.
