SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held last evening; present—The Mayor (Mr N. K. Bowden), and Councillors Cutler, Bell, Manhire, Hirtzell, Lafferty, Halley, M’Millan, Murray, Caygill and Hadffeld., Several letters were read and dealt with.

The Works Committee recommended that the following footpaths should be asphalted this season: Southampton Street, south-east side, about sixteen chains; Burlington Street', east side, from south end of street to Gordon Street, and west side, from Gordon Street to Brougham Street; Shakspere Road, north side, from Wilson’s Road to about eight chains west of that street; Gibbon Street, both sides, as far as there are any houses; Albemarle Street, west side, about six chains. The committee recommended that as the arrangement with the City Council for the hire of a chemical engine and the horsing of the Railway fire engine had expired, the arrangement should be renewed for another year. The committee reported in connection with the Sydenham sewage depot as follows: —The City Council having served notice of its intention to take legal ings to abolish the sewage station on-the South Belt, and J. Rowley and others having served a similar notice, the committee placed the matter in the hands of Mr Stringer, with instructions to defend, and requests authority to take such further action as it may consider necessary.” The report was carried unanimously. Items of finance were reported as follows :—Receipts since last meeting .£483 13s Id, balance of rates for 189(1 uncollected .£llO9 18s 3d. Expenditure =2415 13s. Balance of accounts —Separate account £330 Ids 9d, interest account £994 8s 4d, loan account £5234 11s sd, general account £3899 10s Id. The Council went into committee to consider the following proposed new bylaws;- — Hackney carriages and borough stage coaches, carriers’ by-law, No. 10, and a by-law to provide building regulations to apply to and within the borough of Sydenham. Upon resuming the meeting terminated.
