SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
A meeting of the Sydenham Committee was held on Feb. 4; present Captain Meikleham (chairman); Messrs W. Brew, J-’ Forrester, F. C. Hall, J. Hadfiold, E. KalAy, W. Millar and C. Simpson. A letter was received from the Board of Education advising that Annie Adams and Inez Dunn had passed the fourth year examination and were expected' to attend the Normal School. Eesolved that Florence Pearson and Alice Noall be' recommended to the Board for appointment in the place of the two first named. The head master reported that nine scholarships had been gained by schola.rs attending the school, and it was resolved that the congratulations and thanks of the committee should be conveyed to the staff, and especially to Mr Waddell, fifth assistant master, for his valuable assistance in the preparation of the candidates. It was resolved that the committee should affiliate with the School Committee Association for North Canterbury. The usual monthly meeting of the West Oxford School Committee was hold on Tuesday evening; present—Messrs Munn, Kennedy, Knowles, Allen and Jones. In the absence of the Chairman, Mr Kennedy was voted lo the chair. The master’s report showed the - average attendance to be 95'9, and the number on the roll 131. The resignation of the caretaker was received and accepted, and the Secretary was instructed to call for tenders for the position. The Visiting Committee—Messrs Knowles and Allen—were instructed to have necessary repairs done. It was resolved that, owing to the Chairman’s inability to attend the meetings, his seat should be declared vacant. Mr E. Fisher was appointed to fill the vacancy, and Mr S. Kennedy was appointed chairman for the remainder of the committee’s term of office. Accounts were passed for payment.
