THE RECENT SLANDERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your correspondent “ Justice ” has certainly not. done his friend Mr Turner any good by his perfervid effusion in your columns of to-day. lam myself surprised that “Justice” has dragged the club that Air Turnermelougs to into tho matter; and, 1 though no name is mentioned,, it is well-known that tho gentleman in question is a prominent member of the Christchurch Working Men’s Club, which lately took a step that brought it into a certain sphere of notoriety. 1 have reasons to believe that the Liberty League backed up Mr Turner in his unwarrantable charges against several prominent Prohibitionists, but that does not in tho least exonerate Mr Turner. In my opinion his apology j has averted a consequence which he > entirely deserved. A ■ cowardly attack i like that which emanated from the Southern j Queen —from which, by-tlio-byc, the j Countess of Glasgow has withdrawn her j patronage—-can only result in Nemesis j recoiling on the heads of the originators of j tho ci.Okinny. —I am, &c.,
