THE FOURTH OF DECEMBER.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your readers of Fourth. Standard qualification will be able to judge who is writing the twaddle. The noble ninetysix thousand may feel flattered that “ Liberty ” has them so easily manufactured into dupes. There is only one officer in receipt of a salary that I know of here. It was “ Liberty ” who characterised the tipplers as weak; “ Liberty ” forgot that the demoralisation of the thousands and their families’ ruin was of colonial extent. It is evident “ Liberty ” is as regardless of his family’s fate as he seems to bo of that of the community, or ho would not place a demoralising agent in their way. Your readers will take tho statements of Wolseley, Gladstone, Richardson and a host of judges and scientists before “ Liberty’s ” on the effects of liquor drinking. I say there is no bottom in liquor for work or fight. As to our medical men, “ Liberty ” must be in error, or it would be time people woke up.—l am, Ac., KEEP CLEAR BRAINS.
