THE INTENSE HEAT. [Per Press Association.!
SYDNEY, Dec. 28.
The heat wave continues unabated in intensity. At West Bourke the thermometer registered 114, at Wllcannia 113, and at many other places over 100. The heat was overpowering in the city to-day,- the thermometer registering 100* in the shade. There was a cool change tonight with signs of rain, but the heat is still intense in the country. At Coalwan the register has been 116, and at Ungarie 124 for the last three days. There has been great damage to the crops, especially grapes. Two severe cases of sunstroke occurred in the city. A number of persons have been prostrated, and several deaths have been reported from the country.
MELBOURNE. Dec. 28. Steady rain was falling at midnight. ADELAIDE, Dec. 28. After a protracted spell of intense heat a heavy general rain has set in.
