«s> p The fortnightly meeting of the Com- ® mittee of the Progressive Liberal Associa-' tion was held in the Temperance Hall, Gloucester Street, on Thursday evening. ' The President, Mr S. Billcliff, occupied the. i chair, and despite the inclement weather g there was a good attendance. Correspondence was dealt with—Prom the Central Political Council relative to taking the . ballot for the final selection of candidates. 11 Prom the Premier relative to the Old Age ?! Pension Bill, stating that despite opposi- ( - tion the Government hoped ultimately to r place it upon the Statute Book, but to do so required the help of the electors ; also 9 with regard to the loan for public works, 11 stating that it was impossible to carry out the necessary reproductive works out of ,1 revenue, and that the issuing of notes . without cash behind them would not solve u the question. From Mrs Blake, bringijig before the notice of the Committee o letters which had appeared in the public f prints relative to unfortunate girls. A - strong sub-committee of ladies was appointed to go into the matter and report. , On the motion of Mr W. I. Ballinger it was unanimously decided “ That a sub-corn-mittee be elected to go into the matter of selecting lady members to Charitable Aid and other Boards, &c., and co-operate with the Women’s Institute. The lady librarian announced that she had received a contribution to the library. It was decided that the expending of the money should be left a in the hands of the librarian. A sub-corn-' mittee was elected to go through the rules,' revise and report, with, the, intention of rjhaving them printed.
