UNION ROWING CLUB.

A special general meeting of the Union Rowing Club was held at the’Clarendon Hotel yesterday evening. Mr A. Loughrey, a vice-president, occupied’ the chair, and about sixty-five members were present.. Mr W. G. Atack stated that he had called the meeting to consider the following matters: returns recorded in the voting at the annual general meeting for the_ office of committee. (2) To consider, in the event of its being found that the ballot was improperly taken, the action to be pursued with regard to the culprit or culprits, <(3) To take, if necessary, a . second ballot for the committee. He explained at length his reasons for calling the meeting, and. stated that he and Mr ’.F/ U. • Kesteven had .been returned at the bottom of the poll-taken for the election of the Committee,; with, seventeen votes each. He had made'inquiries after the meeting/ with the result that thirty-four members of the Club signed a declaration before a Justice of the Peace that < they had voted for Mr Kesteven. The declaration was read, and upon the motion of Mr Atack, seconded by Mr G. Cooper, it was resolved that the scrutineers be asked to make an explanation. - i Messrs F. E. Asquith and W. E. Symes, who acted as scrutineers at the annual meeting, each read a declaration explaining the method by which the ballot had been carried'out. They further stated that, so far as they were individually concerned, the ballot had been conducted, in a proper manner. I After a lengthy discussion, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr P. Fuller, seconded by Mr Harding “That the meeting, be adjourned till Thursday next, and that the charges against one of the scrutineers be formulated and sent to him forthwith.” At 10.55 p.m. the meeting adjourned.
