VICTORIA RACING CLUB. [Special to Press Association.] MELBOURNE, July 13. The weather was fine for the second day’s racing of the winter meeting of the Victoria Racing Club, and there was a large attendance. The principal event resulted as follows : GRAND NATIONAL HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE, of 1000 sovs; second 100 sovs, third 50 sovs. About three miles. Betting: 6 to 1 each agst Daimio and Battoro, 7 to 1 Floater and 10 to 1 Medicine. After the flag fell J. 0.1. took command and led over the first fence. At the back of the course in the first round Floater fell, and shortly after Knebaworth, Spanker and Battoro came down. Passing the stand the second time Daimio had a strong load from Moondah and Timona. The lastnamed came to grief in the last round Daimio came to the home turn in a canter, and won easily 'by five lengths from Dart. Tims—Gmin 45£aec. At a meeting of members of the Victoria Racing Club, held to consider the Totalisator Bill, a large majority of the committee and members expressed themselves strongly in favour of the machine.
UNITED HUNT CLUB.' [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON. July 13. Fine weather was enjoyed for the Hunt Club meeting, and the attendance was about 800, including Lord and Lady Glasgow - and family, and a number of members of Parliament. There were capital fields, and an . excellent day’s sport; was enjoyed. The sum of £3141 passed through the totalisator, being £27 mote than the amount handled in the previous year. The following are details : MAIDEN STEEPLECHASE of 40 sovs; second horse 5 sovs. About two miles. 43 Mr J. H. Prosser’s brg Gladstone, by Gladiator—Wallflower, aged, list ... (Taggart) 1 37 Mr W. B. Buick’s b g Silent Friend, agedf list 31b (S. Stuck) 2 27 Flywheel list 131 b, 56 Seddon list 121 b, 22 Waugaimoana list 71b, 15 Shan Hat 71b, 37 Tippler list, 4 Sawdust list (carried 12st 81b), 3 Straightfire list (carried list 81b) and 3 Toprail list also started. Seddon, Shan, Tippler and Sawdust met with mishaps. Gladstone led for n mile and a half, followed by Wangaimoana and Silent Friend. After the last hurdle had been negotiated, the whips were out on Gladstone and Wangaimoana, and there was a good race for a furlong, bub the latter shook off Gladstone and won by a length and a half, but being unable to draw the weight, Gladstone was awarded the race. After travelling a mile Unity and Spreydon took up the running, with Hopeful and Eevolutioa at their heels. At the turn the latter cried enough, and Hopeful challenged the leaders and scon had them settled, eventually winning rather comfortably by a neck. Time—3min 42aec. Dividend—£llss. Halicort, Pyrites and Kohai either fell or ran round. Morel, Cyrus, Seddon and Wangaimoana comprised the leading division throughout and fenced faultlessly. A couple of fences from home Mozel and Cyrus were racing together, but the Wairarapa gelding lasted the longer, and won easily at the finish by six lengths, Seddon just beating Wangaimoana for third place. Hopeful and Crystal fell, and Conscript stuck up at the sod wall. Wariti led for tbe best part of tho journey, with the favourite well up, also Awaruaand Dromedary. In j umping into Eglinton’s paddock on the last round Dromedary took charge, and Booties looked dangerous half a mile from home. He soon died away. Dromedary never turned her head from the fence, and won rathor easily at the finish. Unity a good fourth. Booties fifth and Bproydoa sixth. Time—fimin 48aec. Dividend— JBS. Cadger and Pyrites led to the road, where Tippler showed up prominently, but soon died away. Bounding the turn Bird came with a wet sail and won rather easily by a length. Time—3miu 12sec. Dividend—£B ss.
