HOSPITAL BOARD.
NORTH CANTERBURY. An ordinary meeting of the .•■Hospital Board was held yesterday ; present-™ Messrs R. H. Wood (iu tha chair), 0. M. Gray, J. Forrester, H. W. Hamilton, R. H. Parish, and W. Dunlop. Apologies for non-attendance 1 were received from Messrs W. Moor, W.D. Wood, J. G. Murray, and A. Wiffen. chairman's REPOST. The Chairman reported that, SBrit-. was impossible for the Inspector of Hospitals to attend, Mrs Grace Neill had con* ducted a preliminary enquiry into matters connected with the management of the Hospital, and would report to the Inspector. The tender, of A. J. White for furnishing the •■Nurse’s Home had been accepted, and it was * anticipated that the Home would be ready for occupation towards the end: of the ensuing month. During the month 118 patients were admitted, 98 discharged, 11 died, leaving 104 remaining in the hospital. The' receipts for January were*—Con? tributions from local bodies: Counties—"• Selwyn £llO 8a 9d, Amuri ,£l2 4s 3d, Akaroa .£l9; Boroughs;—Christchurch .£lO5 18s, Linwood £7 25, : Sydenham £35 4s fid, St Albans £SO, Road Board-"? Mandeville and Eangiora £29 12a 4d. Donations £1 Is, patients’ fees £lSl4b, subsidy £539 2a Id. Total £929 6s lid. ' The expenditure was £1429 12s Id, as per details attached.” The report was adopted, with an amendment that tenders tor supplies for the ensuing year should be accepted subject to the approval of the Board. EXTENDED ACCOMMODATION. A letter was read from the honorary medical staff, covering a resolution affirming the necessity of increased accommo? dation at the Hospital. Mr Dunlop moved-—" That the House and Finance Committees inspect the buildinge, consider the question of ways and means, and report tactile Board.” _ 1 , Tfee diotioi!. was seconded by Mr -3?WH&v and carried. COMMISSIONER’S RETORT. It was agreed to hold a special meeting of the Board when the Commissioner’s report was received. Mr Gray entered his , protest against the manner in which the inquiry asked for by the Board had been carried out (no matter what the nature of the report might be), and the House Committee not having been associated with Mrs Neill in the matter as requested. ; FINANCE. . Accounts amounting to £1429 12s Id, including progress payment for the Nurses* Home, were passed for payment* A discussion took place as to the amounts due to the Board by local bodies and other persons, it being suggested that a paid collector should be appointed, but upon explanations being made mo action was taken. It was decided that a list of .amounts due by patients should .' be laid' upon the table at each meeting for the inspection of members. The meefcingthen closed.
