Wales forces, speaking at a dinner at Bathurst, strongly recommended the federation of tlio Australian military, a scheme which harmonises entirely with that recommended by MajorGeneral Edwards. THE COPELAND AFFAIR. Mr G. H. Reid, leader of the Opposition, declines to treat Mr Hindlo’a motion as a party question, and Mr Hmdle has decided to let members deal with the motion as they think proper. ELECTORAL. MELBOURNE. Mr Piank Madden was returned unopposed for the Eastern Suburbs constituency, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr Duncan Gillies, who was appointed Agent-General for the colony in London. Mr Anderson has been elected for the Windermere seat, replacing Mr Matthew Butte rly, deceased. THE CHUROH CONGRESS. HOBART, Jan. 26. At the Church Congress yesterday, the Bishop of Nelson read a paper on " The Supply and Training of the Clergy,” in which he insisted that there was just as much necessity for keeping up a high standard of excellence in regard to the olergy in Australia as in England.
