CHRISTCHURCH. Fbidat, Dec. 8. (Before J. Gapes and C. M. Gray, Esqe.) Obscene Language.— Kata Moore, a very old offender, was charged with using obscene language in Manchester street on Thursday evening. Accused said she did not remember using any had language. . She would never come before the Court again if their Worships let her off this time; she had been in gaol at Christmas for years past, and she did not want to go there this Christmas. She had enough money to go to Wellington, and if their Worships would have mercy on her this time she would go away at - once. Had it not been for a woman annoying her she would never have made use of such bad language. Detective Benjamin deposed that accused made use of very bad language within hearing of people passing along the street in Bedford Sow about half-past ten on Thursday evening. Accused was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labour. Miscellaneous.— E. E. Drinkwell was fined ss, and coats 7e, for tethering a horse in Victoria street.—John Carey was fined ss, and costa Is, for keeping an unregistered dog.—A. O’Donoghue, for attempting to rescue six horses seized for the purpose of being impounded by Richard Evans, was fined 20a and costs.—Thomas Kelly was charged with rescuing a calf seized for the purpose of being impounded by James Weatherall on Dec. 2. Mr Donnelly appeared for complainant, and Mr Andrews for defendant. After hearing a large quantity of evidence, their Worships inflicted a fine of 20a, with cost J6llßs. (Before E. Beetham, Eaq., R.M.) Maintenance. Robert Telfer was Charged with failing to provide his wife and six children with adequate means of support. Mr Donnelly appeared for complainant. Defendant said he was willing to support his wife and children. His Worship adjourned the case for fourteen days to enable the parties to corns to some amicable arrangement. ASHBURTON. Fbidat, Deo. 8. (Before R. Alcorn, Esq.) Dbunkbnnbss. Thomas Daly and Thomas Mitchell were each fined 10a, without costs, with the alternative of twenty-four hours’ imprisonment.—A first offender was canvicted and discharged.
