IN CHAMBEBS. E'sidat, Dec. 8. (Before hie Honor Mr Justice Deaniston.) IK EE HALING AND CO. His Honor gave judgment in the matter of Mating and Co. and Thom and Cameron on the motion for directions to the effect (1) That as to all sales subsequent to May 10, Messrs Thom and Cameron wore entitled to the actual value of the goods sold, without duty or charges. (2) That as to all goods sold before May 10, and not paid for, Messrs Thom and Cameron were entitled to receive from the purchasers the full value of the goods, including duty and charges, subject, of course, to any cross-claims between the Company and the purchasers, (3) That as to all money received by tbo Company before May 10, Thom and Cameron must rank as ordinary creditors. No costs were allowed; liquidator's costs to be paid out of assets. EEOBATE, &C. His Honor granted probata of the will of W. Breach (deceased) to Mrs Breach, on tho application of Mr Spackmon. His Honor granted letters of administration of tho estate of E. Woodhaxa, on the motion of Mr Widdcwaon. LAW PBACTITIONESS’ ACT. Mr Joynfc appeared in a case under the Law Practitioners’ Act, in which a rule nisi had been made calling upon three solicitors to show cause why they should not bo struck off the rolls, and applied that the return should bo postponed till after the vacation. Mr Fisher appeared for the Canterbury Law Society, but did not press the matter. His Honor fixed the once to be heard on Feb. 2, considering that the circumstances warranted such postponement. (Pee Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 8. At the civil sittings of the Supreme Court, in tho case G. M’Donald (petitioner), Eliza M’Donald (respondent), and Patrick Daley (co-respondent), the decree nisi in an action in divorce for dissolution of marriage was made absolute. WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. At the Supreme Court Thomas G. Fraser was sentenced to twelve months’ hard labour for stealing clothing from the Empire Hotel, belonging to Mr Carncroas, M.H.R., during the session. In the Supreme Court to-day Alfred Joseph Kirk, formerly a general storekeeper at Hawera, was arraigned on the. first of four charges under the new Bankruptcy Act, namely, that within twelve months before the presentation of tho petition of bankruptcy against him he unlawfully made preparations for quitting the Colony and taking'with him part of his property which ought to have been divided amongst his creditors, to wit bank notes, gold and dollars of the value of upwards of £2OO. After half an hour’s retirement thejury returned with a verdict of “ Guilty,” and accused was remanded for sentence. In the case of Patrick Scott alias John, Williams, charged with larceny, the jury, who have been out since noon, are unable to agree. DUNEDIN, Dec. 8. James Pickworth, a bankrupt, was convicted of concealing £5 from the Assignee. This being the first case under the 1892 Act, the Judge to only one month’s hard labour.
