The next contest of the New Zealand Bands Association being fixed to take place here in October, 1894, a preliminary meeting of citizen? was held to-rngbt to make ouch arrangements us will secure the success of the contest. Tee general opinion was that the prizes hitherto given were inadequate in t*luo for the arduous pra •- iico required of the competing bands, and strong effort* will be made to increase tin money, £IOO for the winning band being the goal aimed at.
