Prank Dawson, aged sixty, dropped dead to-night when assisting to open a Good Templar Lodge at Oaehunga. FATAL ACCIDENT. A deplorable accident happened last evening at the Christchurch Railway Station, Mr William Haekehaw, the wellknown tobacconist of High street, being run over and killed. The unfortunate man was attempting to alight from the train —the last one from the racecoursebefore it had quite stopped, and missing his footing, fell on the rails. When picked up it was found that the wheel of one carriage had passed over hia chest, and life was quite extinct. Deceased, indeed, was almost severed in two. It would appear that the train was almost at a standstill when Mr Hackshaw folb for his body was barely a yard distant from the wheels that had crushed the life out ° Mr Ilßckahaw, who was about thirtyseven years of age, leaves a wife and two children. He was well known in sporting circles, having taken the liveliest interest in ail field eporbs. An inquest will be held to-day.
