Professor Pennefather, of Adelaide, has successfully passed the Doctor of Laws examination at Cambridge University. TUSSAUD’S EXHIBITION BURNED. Louis Tussaud’s Exhibition has been destroyed by fire. [The Exhibition was of a similar nature to that of Madame Tussaud: wax figure portraits, historic or notable dresses and accessories.]

POPULATION OF SCOTLAND. The census returns of Scotland show the total population to be 4,033,000. The population of the City of Glasgow is 792,000. [The population of Scotland in 1881 was 3,735,573, and the population of Glasgow was 674,095.]

MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL. The first section of the Manchester ship canal, commenced in November, 1887, was opened to-day. [Work on this gigantic undertaking, which is to practically convert Manchester into a seaport, was begun on Nov. 11, 1887, on the Cheshire side of the Mersey.]
