The coal lumpers have struck work, as an attempt to crush the free labour bureau out of existence. The shipowners have expressed their determination to maintain the bureau. [Received Dec. 21, at 10.35 a.m.] SYDNEY, Dec. 20. The balance-sheet of the Labour Defence Committee has been published. The receipts were—From trades societies’ contributions, ,£2B 662; from English unions, .£4060; from the public, JE4550; total, £37,273. The expenditure amounted to £37,034. The total cost of administration was £lOBl. The principal contributions were—Shearers’ Union, £1700; Engineers’ Society, £1000; Gas Stokers’" Union, £1600; Iron Moulders’ Union, £5800; Locomotive Engineers and Firemen, £2000; JUilway Association, £1200; Printers’ Association, £2OOO.
