MINING NEWS.

[FROM OtJK OWN CORRESPONDENT.] EEEBTON, April 26, The Brokers* Association report that a fair amount of local business has been done during the week. Prices have a somewhat firmer tendency, and in some instances every appearance of a better rate. Iveep-it-Dorka had some business at 17s 6d, but sellers asked 18a, and only rather limited parcels at that. The battery is not going full time yet, and in the mine there is .steady work which may bring the property into prominence at any moment. Globes have hadnome business, but not as much as . might have been expected, considering the •exoellenft appearance of the mine, and the 'material improvement which has taken place in tiie battery returns. The month’s onerationeihave left a handsome profit, and allowed of a dividend of one shilling per share. Sales took place during the week at up to 23Ls,. closing with a much better buying tone,.and holders inclined to await a buoyant market, a condition the present appearance of the property ought to soon produce. Inkermans are still among the steadily rising stocks, and, from buyers at 22s early in the week, rose to transactions at 24s 6d, and a few parcels offering at 255. The reef is now being driven for from the bottom of the main shaft, and this mine will, before long, be turning out gold again. Progress seems to keep pretty stationary; recent returns have not been quite up to expectations, bub this will oe altered when operations inside the mine are further extended. Fiery Cross had a few transactions at 6s 6d, and, with payable returns and the mine opening up well, may be reckoned among the lines moat likely to harden in price. Big Eivers hold their usual place among the always saleable lines, and holders inclined to sell find no trouble in getting a market. Low offers were made for Just-in-Time. Buyers of Hercules offered Is 4d, and O.K.’s had limited sellers at Is 6d, Eesolutions were in firm, demand all the week at about Is, and Eewards had buyers at small prices. Scotiaa remained quiet until this morning, when news from the mine caused business at from 2s Id to 2s 4d. Buyers of Specimen Hill ioffer Is 3d. United Alpines have had a quiet week so far as this place is concerned; sellers 26s 6d. United Italy .Hold at fid, with only a few parcels offering. Wealths have a good feeling, and saw sales at up to 4s 3d. The present crushing •is not expected to be anything startling, but appearances in the mine are considered very satisfactory.
