The yearly average price of silver was: —From 1862 to 1866 between 62d and 61d per oz; 1867 to 1872 between 61d and 60d per oz; 1873 it was 593 d per oz; 1874 it was 58 5-16ths per oz; 1875 it was 56jfd per oz; now it is about 43|d per oz. The earning power of the Australian community is greater than that of any other population in the world. According to Mr G. Mulhall, P.S.S., the annual earnings per head in Australia are over .£43, as against £35 in the United Kingdom, .£27 in the United States, £26 in Canada and Holland, and £25 in France.
