GLENTTUNNEL.
[kbom our own correspondent.] For your information I may explain that this place is about 40 miles from your city, and through the generosity of a paternal Government we are connected by rail as well as wire with yourselves. Fishing, so far, has not been a success this season, though I bo’'eve there are plenty of fish, but, being 1 . well fed, will not yield to the blandishments of the fly, though I hear of several good baskets being had lately. The Brick and Tile Factory is in full work, and orders are coming in freely. Cricket is in full swing. Last Saturday we played South Malvern, and got licked, of course. I wish one of your reporters had been present, as I think you would have been sorry for your remark a few days ago in a leading article that good cricket was seldom seen, and that you hoped to see some now the Australians were coming. All I can say, it was a grand display, and by good, plucky play our eleven got 40 together before they were disposed of. They afterwards adjourned to the hotel, where host AVadlow provided an excellent dinner.
Our band is practising some lively tunes for the coming sports at the New Year. A few nights ago a beginner in the band came drifting down the town performing on his instrument. Next morning before breakfast I noticed all over the road old boots, half bricks, &c. On enquiry I found the inhabitants had been under the delusion that that instrument was cats. Speaking of cats, I may say they are an unruly set, and persist against all law and order in holding their nightly meetings under tlie house. Only lash-night I had to open my bedroom window three times and address them, telling them what bad form it was to waken decent people from their first sleep: I have myself a cat attached to the premises, which 1 begin to think 1 must get rid of. In coming hack to serious subjects again, I regret to say the coal mines here are still closed. It seems a pity when there is work for a hundred men to see them idle.
